What it is

Noosa National Park is the headland that juts out from Noosa's main beach, a short walk from the centre of town and genuinely wild the moment you step onto the coastal track. The headland is home to a resident koala population, a handful of small beaches most tourists never find, and the famously good Tea Tree Bay point break.

This tour walks the full coastal loop (Boiling Pot, Tea Tree Bay, Granite Bay, Hell's Gates, Alexandria Bay) with a guide who can spot a koala in a tree from thirty metres out. You stop for a swim at Granite Bay, which is usually empty on weekdays, and return via the Tanglewood track for variety.

It's a proper walk (about 7km total, some uneven ground) but the pace is moderate. Not a hike. A walking tour with a few surprises.

Why this one

  • Local guides know the koala tree rotation. Far better spotting odds than going solo
  • Full loop, not just the busy Boiling Pot section
  • Granite Bay swim stop is the quiet highlight
  • 9am start beats the heat and the day-tripper crowds
  • Walk-in meeting point, no transfers, no wasted time

Practical notes

Meeting point at the Noosa National Park entrance at Hastings Street end, 9am start. Return to the same point around noon. Walks run rain or shine; moderate rain actually helps koala spotting (they move lower in the trees).

Winter (May to Sep) is perfect walking weather and peak whale-watching from the headland. Summer is hot, the 9am start matters. Wear proper shoes; sections have exposed tree roots and one scrambly bit down to Granite Bay.

Koala sightings are not guaranteed. Wild animals, not fenced. The guides are good, but sometimes the koalas have moved. Dolphins offshore are near-daily; whales are June to October.
